The 5th statistical survey, of national scale become periodic with the STEG near the Tunisian households since 1984, released from the results as for the behaviors and the spending patterns of the domestic customers.

The objective of this periodic investigation is to acquire an in-depth knowledge of the practices and levels of consumption of the Tunisian citizen as regards electricity mainly but also and subsidiarily of the other forms of energy such as natural gas, LPG, paraffin oil, etc

The investigation which proceeded in 2004 related to a sample representative of 2.200 domestic customers “drawn” from a total population of 2.200.000 customers.

The sampling procedure rests on the principle of the stratification, i.e. according to the socio-economic and geographical parameters and on random pulling in other words a choice randomly.

The comparison of the five investigations carried out up to now, fact of arising the principal following conclusions as for the various final uses of the residential sector.

Tunisian currently devotes nearly 6 hours. per day on television against 3 h45 mn in 1984 is 60% of more. An average yearly consumption of 227 kWh in 2004.
The park of the refrigerators at the households quadrupled during these twenty years (1984-2004),
The average yearly consumption of this equipment is estimated in 2004 at 562 kWh.
The overall consumption of residential lighting was multiplied by 1,5 in ten years ( 1,8 in fifteen years and 2,7 in twenty years),
The number of washing machines was multiplied by eleven in 20 years (1984-2004)
The use of air-conditioning, constitute in fact an alarming subject for the planners of electricity
The number of the computers almost quadrupled during the five last years.
The total quantity of power consumption by the households has triplet during the twenty last past years.
