«…Shed light on the past of STEG for more lights on its future…».
It is the dedication that graces the first page of the book “Tell me about STEG” revealed Thursday, June 24, 2010 during a cultural ceremony hosted by the General Manager President of the company, Mr. Othman BEN ARFA.
Among the guests, there were former managers, executives, young recruits, sociologists, technicians, historians, journalists and filmmakers...
“The book is a symbolic meeting between two generations of STEG’s personnel: those who have made the STEG and whose STEG is in front” said Mr. Othman BEN ARFA, the General Manager President. |

Several papers have taken place and have served to remind and highlight the efforts and sacrifices made by generations of men and women of the STEG in order that the company gives Tunisia more light and energy.
The book is a look oriented into the reasons of pride of these men and women, recognition to those builders who have made the STEG.
“Tell me about STEG” pays tribute to these true “fighters” whose genius and valor have made the STEG remains prosperous and fully plays its role as “the backbone of the Tunisian economy”.
“What deserves devoting a book, seems to me, the ups and downs, the difficulties facing the challenges, the courage in times of great decisions, the will and determination to go further" dixit Mr. Othman BEN ARFA.
“Tell me about STEG” has just appeared in a big format just like art books, containing 134 pages, richly illustrated and divided into 12 chapters with revealing titles such as "the beginnings of electricity and gas in Tunisia", " Steg makes its first steps, "the gas adventure", " the human resources challenge", "the challenges of tomorrow"... So many important projects and challenges in the life of Steg.
“Tell me about STEG” is a book on the prestigious course of Steg since its birth until today. It is a trip to the heart of the achievements, often badly known, of a citizen company with its numerous designs.
“At the beginning of the fifties, STEG has a duty of memory towards the generations by whom it was shaped and an obligation of orientation towards the future generations so that they stay on course.” Mr. Othman BEN ARFA highlights in the foreword of the book.
“Tell me about STEG” is a perfect marriage of documentation, testimonies, data and figures issued from past reports. The book stops on the company’s highlights, reconstructed from archival documents, studies, reports and minutes of Boards of Directors and Executive Committee. Moments stressed by stories and testimonies of people invited to speak about their Steg through their careers.
“It is, definitely, because the STEG’s march seems easy, seen outside, that it is necessary to give voice to these silent actors who begin moving away from the stage or who have already left it. My thoughts go, of course, towards these posthumous witnesses, our colleagues, died but not forgotten…", specifies the General Manager President.
Far from being an academic work, “Tell me about STEG” is an impulse of the heart of an Editorial Board who has succeeded to synthesize the history, to trace the adventures and tell about the march of about 50 years of Steg. Lived stories, heard ones, strong instants & highlights of the firm…The schema is already drawn for challenges of tomorrow.
During the ceremony, the Editorial Board members, composed of a number of personnel of STEG, spoke about the realization stages of the work, the working methods they have adopted and the challenges they have successfully raise, leading to the publication of the book.
In short, the book is not as leaning toward the past, as it seems to be. “Tell me about STEG” opens up many perspectives & opportunities towards future and recalls so many men as challenges to raise.
“The Steg has no only a glorious past; it has also a bright future. The seniors have met the challenges of nationalization, and now is the time challenges of new information technologies and communication. Nothing is impossible for valiant heart.” As suggested by Mr Othman BEN ARFA.
…others continue to raise challenges every day… |
